Only 13 percent of the world’s population lives in a democracy and development is going backwards. The negative trend also applies to Europe’s 49 countries. How do young people feel that freedom in Europe is decreasing? What initiatives and ideas exist to increase freedom and strengthen democracy?

Only 13 percent of the world’s population lives in a democracy and development is going backwards. The independent American research institute Freedom House has been dividing the world’s countries according to how democratic and free they are for 50 years. The 2023 report shows a continued decline in the world’s degree of freedom for the 18th year in a row. The negative trend also applies to Europe’s 49 countries. Only 34 of the countries achieve freedom, 11 countries are partially free and 4 countries in Europe are not free. In this seminar a panel with six young people from different European countries discuss the movie ”Make democracy great again” and share their thoughts and dreams about freedom and democracy in the future Europe.
